On the Media: Policing Not like the Movies

More than 800 people have been shot within this year by police officers. Movies have portrayed officers to gun down bad guys without hesitation. Sara states that people want to feel protected and want officers to "know" what they are doing. Hollywood gives these rolls out to make a hero, savior or even detectives to continue the idea of police men are all good. Police shootings in the movies have to be proven clean and in real life police officers to do not have to be proven until the trail comes up; if a trial comes up. Movies have changed throughout the decades and hollywood likes to be conservative an have their hero cop franchise like CSI or Law and Order. Do you feel that movies have altered your feelings of cops? Personally I believe that without half of the material that I know from watching these shows, I would not know if these shows were not aired. I understand that its not verbatim but I feel that the language and emotions seen are important because it plays on the emotions of people while delivering the "truth" of what is going on.

On The Media: Is the System Rigged?

The People of america today believe that their system for electing a president is rigged. They have cause to believe this when the are given these two candidates. Many of the millennial generation feel that hey are getting the "short end" by having to chose between one of them. I say having to chose one of these two because they also believe that if they were to vote their vote would be basically useless if "wasted" on one of the third party candidates. I have spoke with my peers and honestly I am quite disappointed that they are for one not informed and two that they aren't going to vote. Trump claims that their is fraud going on in our country and that the "real america" is being stolen. The interview points out the an official in Alabama who stated "they lie when they poll" "they are trying to rig an election," I feel that this is relevant because it's not just occurring now and this issue has been going on for years. To many americans feel that the ranking of the two parties has grown out of control. I for one feel that our system has issues and needs to be reformed for the sake of getting more younger voters involved and interested in voicing their educated opinion.

Well Informed: Guest Speaker

During class time last Wednesday we had the pleasure to listen and observe a guest speaker. We had a professor come in and shed some light on terrorism and his experiences in life. From what I got out of this lecture was a new perspective and understanding for that culture. I felt very moved by the images shown; I was intrigued with some of the situations he has faced with living out here. I had figured with the events going on in the Middle East people would have some cultural connotations in their minds, but I had no idea people today are still as incompetent and ignorant as ever.
I think that people these days should open up their minds and stop being fearful for power being taken way from them. Overall I felt my mind open up and given some insight on to topics that I am not well-rounded in. This presentation was overall very informative and I enjoyed listening to  this professor.
