This Facebook Campaign opened my eyes to the various opportunities that are available to explore when creating a page such as mine. I wanted to make a page to inform people in our community here in saint george of events occuring around them. I noticed that when I posted videos, I received about 2x as many likes as a normal post.

If I were to go back and change anything, I would start by uploading more videos and interviewed people around town to get people more engaged and excited. I noticed that when people had live or in person feeling videos to relate to, I received more likes. What I noticed with similar pages is that the more goofy or non-serious that posts and videos were the more love they got.

Since the start of the campaign I noticed that the more engaged and attentive I was, the more followers and love I received. At the beginning I was having my friends liking and staying up to date with everything going on in town, but they soon became uninterested with anything extra to do. I also noticed that when I started sharing post to my personal account, I reached a lot farther of an audience. When my friends started sharing, I also noticed an upswing of likes and reach. With similar pages, I saw that when they posted funny, goofy or non-serious posts that they also started gaining more likes.

Overall I am very pleased with this assignment. I was excited to jump in and get my feet wet with this idea relating to marketing or branding. I also learned alot of what goes on in the minds of social media users, their likes and dislikes ect. I am excited to continue this page and stay up-to-date with current things going on in our community.

On the Media: Policing Not like the Movies

More than 800 people have been shot within this year by police officers. Movies have portrayed officers to gun down bad guys without hesitation. Sara states that people want to feel protected and want officers to "know" what they are doing. Hollywood gives these rolls out to make a hero, savior or even detectives to continue the idea of police men are all good. Police shootings in the movies have to be proven clean and in real life police officers to do not have to be proven until the trail comes up; if a trial comes up. Movies have changed throughout the decades and hollywood likes to be conservative an have their hero cop franchise like CSI or Law and Order. Do you feel that movies have altered your feelings of cops? Personally I believe that without half of the material that I know from watching these shows, I would not know if these shows were not aired. I understand that its not verbatim but I feel that the language and emotions seen are important because it plays on the emotions of people while delivering the "truth" of what is going on.

On The Media: Is the System Rigged?

The People of america today believe that their system for electing a president is rigged. They have cause to believe this when the are given these two candidates. Many of the millennial generation feel that hey are getting the "short end" by having to chose between one of them. I say having to chose one of these two because they also believe that if they were to vote their vote would be basically useless if "wasted" on one of the third party candidates. I have spoke with my peers and honestly I am quite disappointed that they are for one not informed and two that they aren't going to vote. Trump claims that their is fraud going on in our country and that the "real america" is being stolen. The interview points out the an official in Alabama who stated "they lie when they poll" "they are trying to rig an election," I feel that this is relevant because it's not just occurring now and this issue has been going on for years. To many americans feel that the ranking of the two parties has grown out of control. I for one feel that our system has issues and needs to be reformed for the sake of getting more younger voters involved and interested in voicing their educated opinion.

Well Informed: Guest Speaker

During class time last Wednesday we had the pleasure to listen and observe a guest speaker. We had a professor come in and shed some light on terrorism and his experiences in life. From what I got out of this lecture was a new perspective and understanding for that culture. I felt very moved by the images shown; I was intrigued with some of the situations he has faced with living out here. I had figured with the events going on in the Middle East people would have some cultural connotations in their minds, but I had no idea people today are still as incompetent and ignorant as ever.
I think that people these days should open up their minds and stop being fearful for power being taken way from them. Overall I felt my mind open up and given some insight on to topics that I am not well-rounded in. This presentation was overall very informative and I enjoyed listening to  this professor.

Well Informed: Syria

Syrian Civil War:
Why is the city of Aleppo so important to control?

A little background on the city of Aleppo is that it was once the largest city in Syria. One of the main problems with the major power struggles going on within the city is the four factions that are battling for control. On Sunday, many government troops and rebel enforcers were locked into a mini battle where 41 civilians were killed. Unfortunately this is not the only besieged city in Syria; Mosul and Aleppo are both besieged and bombarded with armed groups trying to control them.

After reading more about Aleppo, I feel that its not necessarily that the city has something genuine to offer but it is more about having that control and power over where it stands in the war.

Well Informed: Terrorism

I decided to become more informed on terrorism in the United States. Specifically within the last year and the event that have occurred over the year. Through my searches and sifting through information, I found out other than the Orlando shooting there were other events:
- July 7th in Dallas, Texas a sniper attack killer 6 police officers and injured 8 as well.
- July 17th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana a shooting attack killed 3 officers and injured another 3.
- October 12th in East Boston, Massachusetts shot and injured 2 officers.

Aside from the United States, Paris was hit a little under a year ago. On the night of friday 13th gunman and suicide bombers simultaneously hit bars, restaurants, concert hall and their major stadium leaving 130 people pronounced dead and hundreds injured. The president of France described this occurrence as an act of war. Unfortunately terrorism is still so prominent and  whether it is involving blowing up cities or shooting groups of people, it is still happening. We as a community can take a stand to try and prevent terrorism by reporting suspicious acts as we see them.

#debate2016

This past monday September 26th there was a presidential debate held in New York between Trump and Clinton. Myself and my roommates decided to watch and follow this debate on social media have a couple laughs. We looked up various drinking games and memes that were already starting to pop up during the day. Ultimately we all pulled out our phones when the debate started; one of my roommates tweeted "waited eighteen years to vote and these are gonna be my options" another roommate tweeted "our country is screwed' needless to say my house is not very supportive of these two candidates. Anyways to my surprise there was a lot of comedy to this debate. I was disappointed with the fact that Trump seemed to be unprepared compared to Clinton. Still it really was not out of character for Trump; I feel that Trump dominated to first twenty minutes of the debate but then became flustered when his contradictions came to bite him in the ass. As I continue to look at the hashtags and pages with polls going I noticed that people are almost even split on who actually won the debate. I decided to run a poll and the results showed 52% say Trump and 48% say Clinton. I will continue to follow the #debates2016 and see what continues to surface.

On The Media: Kids these Days

I decided to Listen and understand "Kids These Days" from the On the Media site.
First off, I really enjoyed listening to both speakers. I appreciate their explanations and view on trigger warnings and safe zones.

I personally feel that there is no need for "safe spaces" due to my own up-bringing. I say this because my own mother is lesbian; growing up watching her fight and struggle (even though hard at some points) made her stronger. I agree with views that college kids being coddled; I agree with the letter sent by the University of Chicago. I feel that people need to learn how to be more tolerant. I believe that one way for us to become more tolerant is to be exposed to multiple "systems" and "environments."

In my opinion trigger warnings increase coddling and provide and "out" for people to avoid topics that they just do not want to talk about. I disagree with the speaker Cameron. Previously in history we had no reason to have the "safe spaces," people would have to learn how to deal with topics and I understand people cannot dive fully into some material but I believe it is important for them to know about. It is important because people need to be educated about subjects they wish to talk about.
